This is what happens when you’re too busy changing a diaper and can’t catch a baby: she gets bold and slides all by herself! (And then does it over and over and over again – I stopped counting after ten.)

Surprising taste in music for a 3-year-old
“Papa, can we listen to Vampire Weekend?”
Okay. Is Vampire Weekend your favorite band?
“I like Vampire Weekend, but I prefer the Seedy Seeds and the Lumineers. Actually, can we listen to the Lumineers?”

This is Abby eating the last strawberry from the full container of strawberries that all three girls devoured in under fifteen minutes. They’re not even teenagers yet!

“Can I have some money?”
You didn’t do anything to earn money.
“What if I wash the dishes?”

Abby and I had a really good time playing in the snow today. I shoveled our walkways while she climbed the many mountains of snow from the city’s snow plows. After I shoveled about a quarter of the very deep snow drifts on our driveway, we both raced through our backyard to catch the man snow-plowing our neighbors driveway. A little money from us, and he plowed ours too. Abby really liked watching, and my back was much happier. John took her out for a good snowball fight and more exploration later. It was a good day for Abby in the snow.
Gwen and Josie haven’t been outside in the snow yet, but I did bring some snow inside for them. My handful of snow melted pretty quickly, but not before they both experimented with tasting snow. Josie was a big fan of eating it. Gwen preferred crushing it between her fingers.

I keep saying “I won’t be able to do this much longer,” but here I am still holding both babies. We were enjoying one of our numerous daily dance parties. (Notice Abby’s Cinderella dress, and Gwen and Josie’s super hero capes? The girls spend their days now dressing up as princesses or flying around as super heroes. Now that’s girl power!)

At lunch today, the girls all decided they wanted to try some of the lettuce from my mixed greens salad. Gwen, of course, liked all of it, including pieces with Greek dressing. Abby was amazed that she liked “the green kind (baby romaine), dry.” Josie was indifferent. She preferred her clementines and noodles. Abby insisted I take a picture to tell her Papa. This was a momentous occasion!

Older
“Papa, how old are you?”
I turned 37 today, Abby. Did you know that some people don’t like you to ask their age?
“But you’re not a lady.”
Some older men don’t like that, either.
(Looking sad.) “But, Papa, I’ve been asking you how old you are all day!”
Guess I’m older.

Tea party time!

They spent a good ten minutes doing this. They’re a team, and very busy. (I always think “mischief managed” when they move on to the next thing.)

Some more highlights from our day: much-loved blackberries with lunch, mayhem while I washed dishes, and bonding over princesses after naptime.
