Eating in the Car
John just shared a funny Abby story.
Abby: Papa, why doesn’t Grandpa let me eat fruits and vegetables in his car?
John: Because he wants to keep his car clean.
Abby: (sad voice) Grandma doesn’t let me eat fruits and vegetables in his car either.

I'm really glad
It’s the end of the day, and as John just said to me “our babies needed lots of love today.” So true. The babies were fussier than usual and didn’t nap as well. They wanted to be held a lot. I’m not sure why. Abby was fine, her usual self, but wanted lots of attention too. I’m exhausted, but I also feel blessed. I’m blessed with a wonderful family. I’m also blessed that they love us enough to help out. As my mom left today, Abby said “I’m glad Grandma Susan came over today.” I definitely agree. I don’t know how we would manage without her.
Since January, my mom has been coming over to our house three times a week (on MWF) to help with the kids. Abby goes to her Grandma and Grandpa Moose’s house twice a week (on TR). With John helping on the weekends, I’m, thankfully, never left home alone for a full day with all three girls. Until they get a little older (more mobile? on a schedule?), I think it would be too much for me to handle alone. I love them. They’re wonderful in every way, but they are a handful! I’m so lucky to have help! And yet even with help, I’m still so tired…

Happy snowsuit
I keep thinking I need to post more and then it doesn’t happen. Agh! I resolve today to try and post one memorable story from our day all month. Here are two from today.
This morning, Abby came happily bounding into our bedroom and exclaimed “happy winter snowsuit!” She meant winter solstice.
This evening, Abby turned on my iPad, opened up the Amazon video app, typed “B A” in the search menu, and selected Barney. We’re impressed and worried.
Gwen and Josie commenced their furious hand sucking, attempts at scooting further down in their bathtub, and grabs at the bugs and lizards on their chairs. Lots of smiles and baby talk too. Oh, and for the past few nights, they’ve both only woken up twice! Once around midnight and again around four. I’m, of course, worried that I just jinxed us!

Good big sister
From the bedroom, we hear crying in the living room.
Abby: “Somebody needs my help!”
And off she runs.
Abby: “What’s wrong, baby?”

Holiday cheer
I love this tradition: we create an ornament of our kid/kids each year. Although I purchased the outfits many weeks ago, I wasn’t sure we could pull it off this year. With luck, a surprisingly sunny day, and a happy, willing big sister, John managed to take some great shots. I’m so proud of our beautiful girls! And, I’m certain everyone will love their ornament.

First snow
Our first snow of the season came today and Abby had a blast playing outside! She loved attempting to make snow balls (the snow didn’t pack very well), stomping, and running around. Luckily my mom and Clara were here today and so I was able to run out and take pictures of the frolicker while the twins snoozed.

Diesel
We were driving to meet Abby’s grandparents when I hear from the back seat:
Abby: I smell something. [SNIFF SNIFF] Maybe it’s DIESEL!

The Train
Papa: Look, Abby. A train!
Abby: We should ride on a train. You could be the engineer!
Papa: Yeah! You could be the conductor. Could Mama ride on the train, too?
Abby: Yes, she could be a passenger.
Papa: What about Gwen and Josie?
Abby: They could ride the bus.

Good kids
We’re having a lot of fun with our suddenly big family. Abby loves being a big sister and has been quite a good helper. “If I am verrrrry quiet, can I check on those babes?”
Gwen and Josie are putting on lots of weight and passed their first check-up with flying colors.

Welcome, Josie and Gwen
On Thursday, November 1, we welcomed Josephine May Moose and Gwendolyn Beth Moose into the world. Josie was born at 4:37PM and weighed 6 pounds, 6 ounces. Gwen was born just three minutes later and weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces. Both girls were about 20 inches long.
Venus and the girls are doing marvelously. We were lucky enough to have excellent doctors and nurses. The whole adventure was surprisingly easy and… fun? Amazing!

Abbyisms
Grandma to Abigail: Where did you get that pretty face?
Abby: I got it from Amazon.com.
Abby had a cold last week and we could hear her heavy breathing.
Abby: I’m purring!
Abby comes running into our bedroom.
Abby: I have a wagon of fresh fruits and vegetables. Apples, carrots, dog poop…
Mama: Abby, get in the car.
Abby: That’s not a car. That’s a van. You made a mistake.
Mama: Abby, do you need your pants changed. What’s in your pull-up?
Abby: A wooly brown yak.
(A wooly brown yak is the Y in her Curious George’s ABC book)
And, today it was:
Abby: Mama, I have zebras in my pants.

Abby REALLY likes music
We went to a wonderful wedding this weekend at which we discovered that Abby really likes live music. She stood just like this for almost half an hour watching the musicians and dancing. She even clapped after every song.
She also really likes to play “name that tune.” I rarely get through whistling the first line before she calls out the title of the song. Some of her favorites are “High on a Mountain Top” by Loretta Lynn (still), “I’m Different” by Butterfly Boucher, and “Whole Wide World” by Wreckless Eric. She can also belt out all the old stand-bys like ” The Itsy Bitsy Spider,” “Little Boy Blue,” and “I’ve Been to Harlem.”

Toddler talk
Abby, thanks for this good day. I had a good time with you.
“Thank you for seeing Miles,” she says in response. (We spent the afternoon outside with the Bakers.)
