We hope Abby remembers this when she’s a surly teenager.

A Zoo influence

Abby: Grandma, know what I’m going to be when I grow up? A rock-n-roll star and a goat show-er.

Venus showed Abby how to draw a flower. Pretty impressive for an almost-three-year-old! (Abby’s is on the right.)

Almost six months later… It’s amazing how much they’ve grown!

With a little help, Abby planted seven tomato plants and one red bell pepper plant in her garden today. Afterwards, she rewarded her hard work with a run through the sprinkler.

A Call

Abby just received a call from “Tyronta” on the wooden phone in her kitchen. She listened for a moment and said “Yes” a couple of times. She then turned to me and said in a sad voice, “I have to go to work today.”

I asked her where she worked– “the library”– and what her job is– “making money.”

Growing everyday

Our babies just keep on growing. Imagine that! Josie can now rotate herself around in a circle, and roll her way around a room. Gwen still pretty much stays in one place, but can play a fun game of peek-a-boo while there. Both babies will now stay sitting up between someone’s legs. They can also lean forward, grab a toy, and return to their sitting position.

They both graduated from rice cereal. They love to self feed bananas from a mesh baby feeder, and they started eating sweet potatoes. Josie initially didn’t like them (and blew raspberries at me every time I tried to give her a bite), but Gwen opened her mouth up like a little baby bird. She seems to love all foods. They now both enjoy them mixed with rice cereal.

Josie seems to be trying to graduate to a two nap a day baby (from napping every two hours). They’re both far from sleeping through the night though, unfortunately. I’m still up two to three times a night per baby (sometimes they’re synced and John also has to get up to assist).

And, I managed a whole day by myself today with all three girls. I’m exhausted, but it went surprisingly well. They were very agreeable little people (even “I’m sick” Abby). I’m nowhere near ready to do it all the time by myself, but I can see that day on the horizon.

Gwen’s favorite game

May 10, 2013

6 months old already! Our Josie weighs 17.6 pounds (is in the 77th percentile) and is 26.75 inches tall (80%). Gwen weighs 16.49 pounds (57%) and is 26.5 inches tall (73%). Pretty awesome, especially for twins! More importantly, as Abby said tonight: “they’ll be chasing after me soon.”

When she grows up

Abby really likes trucks and construction vehicles. On our way to the salon this morning, she saw an excavator and said “I want to be a working man when I grow up.” I told her I thought she would be something really cool when she grew up. Abby enthusiastically responded “maybe a witch!”

Ice cream cone season has returned to our house. Abby’s favorite flavor: chocolate.

A sophisticated palate

Today for lunch Abby is enjoying a spinach and feta pizza and vegetables dipped in blue cheese dressing. “Delicioso!”

Delicious!

I really wish I had taken a picture of my dinner plate. I don’t mean to brag, but dinner tonight was delicious! We had grilled chicken breasts (marinated with lemon, thyme, garlic, and olive oil), cooked carrots, and a wonderful rice pilaf with zucchini, peas, and parmesan.

I was especially pleased with the pilaf. I was inspired by a Martha Stewart recipe. I had planned to modify it, but then couldn’t actually find the recipe when it came time to cook. Thus, I totally winged it, hoped for the best, and the result was yummy! So for future memory, here it is: 1 cup basmati rice (cooked with 2 cups vegetable stock for 20 minutes), diced zucchini and peas added after 10 minutes, and parmesan added at the end. Delicious!
