A sweet tooth

While having a snack tonight, Abby asked John and me about our favorite food. My answer was ice cream and John’s was pie. What did Abby say was her favorite food? Carrots!

Our first day without Grandma Susan’s help went surprisingly well. We played lots of dress-up, did crafts outside on the deck, read many books, and more. Lunch time and nap times were thankfully uneventful. We’ll certainly miss her, and we’re extremely grateful for all she did for us, but we’re in a good place now. I think we can do this!

Out with the old and in with the new.

Nine months old today!

Crawling chompers

Four new teeth in less than a week! No wonder Josie’s been chewing on everything. (Gwen still has three, but both girls’ gums are ready to erupt.)

Gwen is working hard at figuring out how to crawl. She’s at that super frustrated rocking back and forth stage. Josie’s quickly crawling everywhere and getting into everything. And, as long as she’s holding on, Josie can now walk along furniture without assistance. We also found her happily standing in her crib this morning. Nine months old on Thursday!

We had a wonderful time today at Miami Whitewater Park with Auntie Mel and Uncle Ron. Abby rode a boat for the first time, and got to be captain. We fed the ducks. We even enjoyed ice cream after playing at the playground.

Two years and a few months later, and she still loves to climb trees.

Whilst mowing the yard, what should I see but a swarm of honey bees. It just so happens that one of our neighbors is a beekeeper. He was over in a jiffy with a box and a fogger and now he has a new hive. Awesome!

Abby really likes Alan Jackson music. We’ve all got Little Bitty stuck in our heads.

Eight and a half months old! Lots of baby talk (“ma!”) and crawling (attempts by Gwen and rapid acceleration by Josie). Favorite foods right now are cheese and bananas.

Good taste

I read an article on NPR about Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ new album and then started listening to the track “Better Days.” Abby came over and said: What are you listening to? Music? That’s good music!” She listened with me for a bit and then took my iPhone, held it up against her ear, and then went back to the loveseat to listen while watching Sesame Street.

We had a great time at the St. Pius festival yesterday. Abby rode every kids’ ride without hesitation. I got to ride some too! Listen for Abby’s squeal of delight in this video. She was all smiles. I think I’ve found my future roller coaster mate!
